Union of Concerned Scientists | Animated Manifesto
The Union of Concerned Scientists is a national organization of scientists, educators, and students who collaborate to develop and implement innovative and practical solutions for some of the planet’s most pressing issues. In the current political climate, the Union of Concerned Scientists needed to expand their membership to defend against attacks on science. Oxbow was tasked with developing a method to attract and engage new members and position UCS as being on the front lines of the fight.
THE Approach
Oxbow identified hundreds of possible members and developed a manifesto video as a recruiting tool to reach this new audience. We crafted a script and visual narrative that positioned UCS as an authority in policy and innovation, as well as explaining the opportunities for prospective members to pursue their research in a national organization with over 17,000 members.
The creative approach centered around motion that was emotionally charged and cinematically striking. By combining vivid, auditory landscapes with a cast of anonymous yet heroic scientists, the aim was to intensify the drama and offer an optimistic take on an issue that tends to draw a disproportionate amount of controversy and negativity.
THE RESULTS
The video won Bronze at the 2017 Summit Creative International Awards in the category of Non-Profit Video. The Summit Creative Award (SCA) recognizes and celebrates the creative achievements of small and medium sized advertising agencies worldwide with annual billings under $30 million.
