Inmates are not the only victims in America’s incarceration crisis. Every second spent in jail or prison is a second lost at home, felt deeply by the families and communities of those wrongfully convicted or disproportionately sentenced. Whether it’s a missed birthday party or a missed childhood, every family impacted by over-incarceration feels the effects.
FWD.us, backed by leaders like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, is focused on fixing our immigration and criminal justice systems to ensure that we all have the opportunity to live up to our full potential. Oxbow teamed up with Purpose to share this story.
The Approach
Working in collaboration with Purpose, we decided that the best way to capture missed moments was to recreate them… second by second. Oxbow crafted every scene with stop motion animation, leaving no detail out of the picture.
Contrasted against a stark black background, every scene attempts to embody the feeling of time erased – moments that are lost forever. Carefully designed sound and incredibly detailed art direction were critical in bringing this piece to life. In the end, we hope this piece does justice to the most pressing issue at hand: criminal injustice.
